The first place you come across is Canneto. You look at the sea and your gaze is captured by the islands of Panarea and Stromboli on the horizon. A constant feature of Lipari and the Aeolian Islands is the panorama, a show that changes according to the perspective, but which always offers some island, islet or faraglione that emerges from the sea. Continuing the journey, the road begins to rise and the panorama is still made. most spectacular among cliffs, coves and views of the island of Salina. We are in the area where pumice stone was mined until the eighties. One of the effects of pumice extraction was the production of a large amount of white powder that spilled onto the beaches, also creating huge dunes from which, as those who visited Lipari in those years will remember, you could slip into the sea. After a swim in the crystal clear sea of Porticello and White Beaches you can continue. A few more stops to admire the view and take some photos on the northern side of the island and the road begins to descend again to the enchanting village of Acquacalda, stretched out on the pebble beach, an oasis of light and silence with the white houses and the blue sea. After a long stop for a lunch a few steps from the sea, based on fresh fish cooked according to Aeolian recipes, we leave from Acquacalda in the afternoon. On the western side of the island, the road bends towards the hinterland but continues to offer great panoramic views. We cross the towns of Quattropani and Pianoconte and the most agricultural area of the island. From the main road you can take detours that go down to the sea, one of which leads to the Terme of San Calogero, among the oldest in the Mediterranean and today in a state of substantial abandonment. The view at this point opens to the east on Salina and to the south on the island of Vulcano. In the last stretch before returning from the west to the city of Lipari you reach the Quattrocchi viewpoint, you can see beautiful coves accessible by boat, the stacks and the sulphurous fumes of the craters of Vulcano. finally we arrive in Marina Corta for an aperitif in front of the sea, the best end of a day in Lipari.
